Today, May 1 happened to be in the Albany area and drove past Canadian Pacific's Kenwood yard. CDOT 231 (was in the distance but definitely a genny in NH livery) was located on the northside of the yard tied down with some mixed freight. Assume it's waiting for the CSX transfer job to go and pick it up. Just thought I would pass this info along....

If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

Given the way Selkirk loses foreign power, why doesn't MN ship their rebuilds to Erie on LSL?

can't ship engines, specially dead one in a in service passenger train, besides Amtrak has no rights to switch GE facility.

Even if they could, Amtrak would not delay their trains for freight moves.

Hello all,

With resent talk about new development of new DM's for Metro North, possible retirement of our current Genesis by 2025, Is there any word on a second rebuild program for the P32's? The first batch of Genesis are nearing 10 years of their current rebuild. 202 was the first to go out in 2006, making it almost 10 years since the rebuild program launched. Just wondering?

How would moving P32s be different from how Amtrak has been moving ACS64? Not understanding the distinction. If it's a question of ownership, could Amtrak and MN arrange a temporary lease for the duration of the move so that the engine would be deemed Amtrak's while on the move?

Amtrak is not shipping a engine for third party to a destination mid way.
Amtrak is moving its own engine end point to end point of each train.

I suppose. It just seems a bit different when it is a nominally operable locomotive of a type Amtrak already possesses. Moving on...

Almost a year and a half later... per the Altoona Works FB page, 231 is finished and shall be heading back in the general direction of MNR territory soon(ish).

Well...The 231 is now in service and the last of the rebuilds. Is there any need for this topic to continue?

CtDOT 228 caught fire in Poughkeepsie.

http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/stor ... /99246288/

...
A fire broke out “in the engine compartment” of the “diesel powered train” around 7:03 p.m., Johnson said.

The small blaze was extinguished within 15 minutes. Firefighters remained on location for an hour as MTA officials responded to the scene.

All passengers on the train exited safely and no firefighters were injured, according to Johnson.

Firefighters believe the fire’s origin may have been “fuel leaking or electric, but we’re not sure,” Johnson said. Metro-North is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Next stop, Willoughby
