SELECTED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE 30 DATES IN THE PERIOD 7/11/17

Postby shlustig » Sat Aug 12, 2017 12:46 pm

Results for this perios are:

TOTAL TRAINS = 1193

ON TIME = 306 (26%)

LATE = 887 (74%)

AVERAGE DELAY = 57"

Of the late trains:
42% were 29" or less late;
24% were 30" to 59" late;
20% were 1' to 2' late;
11% were more than 2' late; and
2% had no arrival time shown.

BY ROUTE, WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

CAPITOL LIMITED
#29 - 0% - 1' 38"
#30 - 19% - 1' 45"

CARDINAL (WAS)
#51 - 17% - 1' 57"
#50 - 15% - 1' 51"

PENNSYLVANIAN
#43 - 38% - 38"
#42 - 38% - 24"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED
#49 - 0% - 1' 27"
#48 - 13% - 1' 04"

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
#59 - 60% - 36"
#58 - 37% - 33"

CRESCENT (WAS)
#19 - 3% - 2' 46"
#20 - 13% - 1' 47"

DETROIT CORRIDOR
(W) - 19% - 29"
(E) - 19% - 28"

ST. LOUIS CORRIDOR
(W) - 41% - 37"
(E) - 49% - 1' 10"

BUFFALO CORRIDOR
(W) - 3% - 52"
(E) - 33% - 39"

KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 22% - 46"
(E) - 8% - 46"

Less than a full complement of trains was reviewed in this period due to programmed trackwork on the route of the Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited and to the Hyndman, PA wreck on CSX on the route of the Capitol Limited.

The only services to show inprovement in both measured categories were the eastbound Pennsylvanian and the southbound City of New Orleans.

Overall on-time performance was at the lowest level in the last 22 periods of review, and there is no reason to expect any significant improvement in the near future. Apparently, senior management of both Amtrack and the host carriers are content to accept such substandard performance.

Of the 102 trains that were more than 2' late:
Crescent accounted for 27; Lake Shore Limited for 19; Capitol Limited for 15; and Cardinal for 7.

On the route of the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited on NS between CLE and CHI:
Of 60 westbound trains, 42 lost time, and 53 of 56 eastbound trains lost time.

On the short corridors, dates with 0% OT were:
DET had 16 west and 15 east;
STL had 3 and 0;
BUF had 27 and 5; and
KCY had 19 and 26.

In comparison with the Summer 2007 timetable:
On the STL Corridor there has been no improvement in scheduled running time except for the Texas Eagle; and
On the DET Corridor there has been a reduction ranging from 2" to 18" with the largest due to elimination of stops.
Makes one wonder what advantage has been achieved for the multi-millions spent on improvements on these routes given the woeful OT performances..

NOTE: CLOSING DATE OF THIS PERIOD WAS 8/9/17.

There were 34 trains that departed their initial terminal too late to permit an OT arrival.

PAH asked about the WB BUF Corridor: #281 wasthe only train to have an OT arrival at BUF.

Regarding the performance of #20 northbound Crescent: I'm not familiar with the intricacies of that route, but #20 (8/12) made up 1' 37" to achieve an OT at WAS. Makes one wonder just how badly screwed over that service is on other days!

AFL asked which services had the greatest amounts of delay.

63% of the total delay minutes in this period were from:
BUF Corridor = 18%
STL Corridor = 17%
Crescent = 15%
Lake Shore Limited = 13%

From Crowne Plaza Piitter Salzburg

Mr. Lustig, while I know European railroad managers who have been Stateside, are simply in awe of our freight traffic, ones I've met have little regard for Amtrak.

I took a Salzburg-Vienna journey last Thursday, and which included a SIX minute connection at Leoben.

Try that one on for size, Amtrak.

Tomorrow I go home. I have complete confidence that the Euro City train will leave precisely at 8a, that I will arrive (S Bahn connection through Munich East) at Munich Airport 1015, and since I do not check baggage, will be on the United 1140A flight.

The Late Shore is still living up to the name.
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
