Sold out already.

Unfortunately for us on east coast none of the Silver Service trains will be near the path of totality at the time.

Myself I will be in SC that day but outside the path. Plan to drive north to Charleston to see it.

I'll be overseas Aug 21; I'm sure YouTube will have all I need to see of it.

What is perhaps more significant is that this is one of the first examples of expanded "special train" (one time) efforts outside the Northeast.

Hoping Amtrak will have the good sense to use either a Superliner Sightseer or the Great Dome on this train.

Why? Most of the trip will be in the dark... I'll bet on the train down most people will be sleeping.

When is the last time someone ran a special train for something like this (i.e. a natural phenomenon rather than a holiday or some regular seasonal thing like fall foliage)?

Why is it leaving at 3am? Why not leave at 6am?

The Amtrak website indicates that there may also be a train to Salem, Oregon?

This is CN we're talking about. This gives enough padding so that even CN couldn't delay the train enough to miss the whole thing.

Although Amtrak is not operating a solar eclipse special train on the east coast, private car FRANCIS L. SUTER will be making a roundtrip from New York to Charlotte and return on The Carolinian for her owner and guests to enjoy the solar eclipse. The car will travel from NYP to CLT on train 79(20) and return from CLT to NYP on train 80(22).

FYI, if you come to St. Louis to see the eclipse, one can take the Metrolink Blue line to the end at the Shrewsbury station. There will be just over a minute of totality there. Numerous viewing parties in the region to the south and west too.
