According to a Tweet by Governor Cuomo, NJ and NY have secured their funding for Gateway Tunnel. Now it's up to the Federal Government.

https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/govern ... ew-gateway

This appears to just cover the two new tunnels, the yard "casing" that goes through the new Hudson Yards development, and rehabilitating the old tunnels.

Not the Penn Station expansion or even Portal Bridge (but that's funded separately, IIRC).

Yeah, the Federal funding is still critical. Hopefully it comes through.

Also a good way for President Trump to get some "Demmie" votes for the TCJA 17 - Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 - legislation.

Trump's instinct for increasing the value of NYC real estate and building big stuff will probably mean he's a soft touch when they ask for $B for Gateway. They can probably trade some other thing to him for Gateway.

Super late to the thread here, but have there been any technical drawings of Gateway tunnels and the layout on the Penn Station side? Sorry if this has been covered already

Look here:http://www.hudsontunnelproject.com/deis.html. I do not believe there is anything much more detailed than this that is public at this time.

That "NY and NJ funding" is in the form of Federal loans which they are only just starting to apply for and have not been approved by the Feds yet so this is not a sure thing. The loans would then get paid back, in NJ's case by a surcharge on fares, not sure how NY is paying for it.

The Federal contribution is expected to be part of next year's infrastructure proposal.

Will it somehow be "Day's Work For a Day's Pay" when Gateway finally starts?

Pretty safe to say the President knows first hand what the Taxpayers are "in for", and is reluctant to have Gateway start on his "Watch".

It's pretty cold in NYC right now.

Some tunnel icicles shorting out the power or otherwise slowing down the commutes while they are scraped off might generate some much deserved blowback from the vox populi.

And thus begins Act I Scene 1 of the Great Infrastructure Drama of 2018.

I agree with one possibility presented by the article this is an opening gambit by the administration. "Trump Tunnel" beckons.

Not surprised, in the least. Just kicking the can down the road, again.

So when will Amtrak announce that the deterioration of the tunnels caused by Sandy forces them to shut down one tube for a much needed rehab? New Jersey Transit commuters might get to know the term "all change at Newark".

I doubt Trump would worry about practical details like that. Unless there is a private partnership in it , He is not interested. Plain and simple.
